The main principle of loving-kindness is that the more you sincerely care about all living beings, the more your joy, inner peace, and satisfaction grow stronger.
The Love Is Not Restricted To Close Ones
Here’s an interesting point to remember: looking out for others, caring and loving is not reserved for humans only. The meaning of ‘others’ is all living creatures – including the animals.
Their pain is not insignificant or meaningless. They can suffer and feel physical and emotional hurts, just like you can… just like your pet can.
Loving animals is not restricted to cats and dogs, those whom we were programmed to care for, but all of them – cows, pigs, chickens, horses, and so on.
Loving-kindness extends from personal categories to include all living creatures and the earth. It begins with our closest surroundings; from there, we can expand it more and more.

This loving kindness meditation has significantly improved my relationship with my sister. We had many clashes and mutual blaming.
